Gallipolitan

President Deb Rhodes opened the regular meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club promptly at 7:15 am, with quite of few regular members missing!  This is a big week as it is the Bob Evans Festival and our club’s primary fundraiser.  President Deb welcomed everyone in attendance and Bob Hood gave the invocation.  It was good to see Kurt Dailey with us today! This is the student dictionary we distribute to the schools!

Dictionary ProjectDebbie Saunders announced that  Wednesday, October 8th, our club will be holding a ‘Label Party’ at the OVB Annex on Third Avenue at 4:00 PM.  We will be applying the labels to all the dictionaries at that time and all members are welcome to stop in and lend a hand.  The process only takes a few minutes, and with a good number of Rotarians we can label every dictionary within an hour or so.  The distribution in the schools will take place the following week on  Thursday, October 16th, which also happens to be Noah Webster’s birthday and National Dictionary Day!

Reading Project–President Deb asked a couple of Rotarians to speak about their experiences with last week’s kickoff of the reading in county elementary schools.  Bob Hood had an excellent time with his first graders at Southwestern.  Chuck Clark reported a good time with the three first grade classes at Addison Elementary.  Reminder–take a camera with you so we can get some pictures of other Rotarians readings.  I’d like to put these in our photo archive.  Send these to me at: cwclark@suddenlink.net.

Perfect Attendance–President Deb recognized nine Gallipolis Rotarians who have A few of the members with perfect attendance for the first quarter.maintained perfect attendance for the first quarter of this Rotary year.  These include Matt Willis, Mel Simon, Kevin Petrie, Bonnie McFarland, Paul Koch, Margaret Evans, Shirley Doss, Chuck Clark, and Gordon Amsbary.  Not everyone was available today for the picture, but any missed absence is made up either by attending the monthly club board meeting, a club project, or attending a meeting at another club.  This week we will have two makeup opportunities with the label party on Wednesday and the Bob Evans Festival this weekend.  Congratulations to our perfect attenders!

Split-The-Pot–Dan Whiteley ran STP for the meeting today and had Jim Phillippe draw the winning ticket which was held by . . . Dan Whiteley!  Dan pocketed the small pot of $6 and President Deb interceded with the card draw for the big pot which was $55.  Dan came up short with the ten of spades–Oh, so close!  The Foundation Fine was assessed by Dan against anyone who was NOT driving their model A car to Point Pleasant after the meeting to provide rides for the Delta Queen passengers.  Dan mentioned that there would be a big crowd in Point Pleasant for this last scheduled stop for the Queen before its retirement.

Happy BuckTammi Brabham offered up two Happy Bucks in honor of her grandparents, and their 70th anniversary.  Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Quigley!

FellowshipGordon Amsbary led club fellowship this morning with a few bits of trivia including some on the Westinghouse Corporation and Ozzie and Harriett.  Members were not sure Gordo was serious, but he suggested a moment of silence for the stock market.  After a call for any fines for missing pins and badges, Gordon closed with a few words of wisdom.

Program–Our program today was a club assembly led by Paul Koch who covered the plans for this weekend’s Bob Evans Farm Festival ice cream sales.  The sign up sheet went around the tables for any last minute volunteers.  Paul emphasized the importance of everyone, including family members, helping out the club this weekend.  We’re expecting great weather, so we can also expect great ice cream sales!  Invite friends and family to help us out.  It’s always a great time of fellowship and labor for our worthy cause.

Thursday, October 9th is SET UP at the Farm.  We still need a couple additional more volunteers to stop by at 4 PM to help wrestle the freezers into place and set up the counters. Paul will have passes with him which you will need to get in to work!

Friday - Sunday–Please plan on arriving by 9 am if you are opening or by Noon if you are working through the busy sales time.  Remember to bring you hat, as head coverings are required.  Do you suppose we will see that French guy this year?  Many thanks to John Ellison for donating the disposable gloves for this year.  Paul covered some of the important issues such as pricing–still same as last year, and serving size–need to be consistent in our servings.

Here is Paul’s contact info if you need passes or have any other questions:
