GALLIPOLIS ROTARIANS SCOOP UP A RECORD!
President Deb Rhodes opened the first regular meeting after the big weekend where Gallipolis Rotarians scooped their way to record ice cream sales at the 38th annual Bob Evans Farm Festival. Deb recognized Festival chairman, Paul Koch, and asked him to come to the podium to announce the unofficial total. Paul had no clue about the total as he was able to take Monday as vacation. It was with great satisfaction and pride in the efforts of his fellow Gallipolis Rotarians as he announced the total three day sales of $16,494.00! That’s a lot of scooping! The assembled Rotarians rose and gave Paul and hearty ‘Standing-O’ in appreciation for his hard work in reaching this achievement! Congratulations, Paul! Gallipolis Rotarians had a special guest scooper at the festival this year, District Governor Tom Kockensparger came down to Rio Grande on Friday and helped out scooping vanilla on apple dumplings for several hours! Thanks for coming down to Gallia county and helping us out, Tom!
Dictionary Distribution–This Thursday, October 16th, is Noah Webster’s birthday, National Dictionary Day, AND our club’s annual dictionary distribution to all 5th graders in Gallia county. Project chair, Debbie Saunders, covered some of the details of the distribution plan for Thursday and distributed a crossword puzzle worksheet to be distributed to the 5th grade teachers as a fun exercise for the students. Try to get a picture from your distribution so we can use it in our club PR event and on our web pages.
Split-The-Pot–Jim Morrison ran STP for our meeting today selling a boatload of tickets pushing the small pot up to $9. The lucky ticket holder was a very surprised Chuck Clark! Jim thoroughly shuffled the cards for Chuck to pull for the large pot of $61. Unfortunately Chuck pulled the Queen of Spades. Our winner assessed the Foundation Fine against anyone who worked the weekend festival.
Happy Bucks–Greg Sokja offered a buck on behalf of the winning soccer teams at URG. Jim Morrison bought a happy buck for Monday night’s football game and Paul Koch gave a happy buck for the successful end of another Farm Festival!
Fellowship–Lou Ellen Werry ran club fellowship for the meeting and offered some interesting historical trivia for club members.
Program–Rotarian Tammi Brabham introduced our speaker for the morning, Lori Neal of the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce who spoke to the club about the upcoming French City Chili Fest. This weekend’s event is the 5th annual chili fest in the city park. The cooking is scheduled to start at noon and there will be hot dogs, brats, and adult beverages available. The chamber took over the chili festival from the Retail Merchants organization this year.
Some of the activities this year include a Baby ‘Belle Pepper’ contest and the traditional Lil’ M
iss and Mr. Chili Pepper. The OSU/Michigan State football game will be availabe on a the big screen with plenty of hot dogs, brats, chili, and adult beverages! The awards for first, second, and third place will be announced at 5 pm as well as awards for best themed booth and Peoples Choice awards. The chamber will have some specially designed aprons for sale at the festival.
President Deb gave Lori the special certificate for her program and a children’s book will be donated in her honor to one of the elementary school libraries. Our meeting was adjourned.
