Gallipolitan

Editor’s Note–It was a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, but Gallipolis Rotarians assembled in spite of the temperatures and icy roads.  President Deb Rhodes called the meeting to order with 14 Rotarians present.  Your intrepid Secretary was snowbound (along with Resty Alonzo) on Highpoint Drive and the minutes for our meeting were prepared by President Deb!

Books for Libraries–Our reception was held last Thursday for school librarians.  There were 8 or 9 people there from the schools.  Rotarians that were there included:  Debbie Saunders, Margaret, LouEllen, Jim Morrison, Matt, Bonnie, Deb Rhodes and Bob Hood.   Cathy Clark was our wonderful photographer.  We appreciate her filling in for Secretary Chuck, who has been under the weather!

Rotary Relays–Our Rotary Relays event for this year will be for junior high track teams and will be held on a Saturday in April.  Jeff Lanham is starting to work on this important project.

Valentine’s Dinner–Feb 10th  Held at the First Church of God Activity Center, 1723 State Route 141 (directly across from Debbie Drive) fellowship at 6:00, dinner at 6:30.  Catered by Black Tie to Barbecue (Tammi’s daughter)  There will be no meeting in the AM..

Foundation Fund Raiser–A spaghetti dinner will be our public fund raiser for this year’s commitment to our match from the Gates Foundation. Shirley Doss is chairing this event.  Alvera Robinson will be helping with the special spaghetti sauce.  Gallipolis Rotary appreciates Alvera’s dedication to Rotary and her experience handling the dinner for St. Louis Catholic Church every year.

District Simplified Grant–Our club’s final report for the DSG was accepted by the district.  They wanted a copy of the labels and certificates that Chuck designed.  They wanted to share this project with the other clubs.

Split-The-Pot–Deb ran STP.  Shirley Doss won the small pot but missed the Big ‘Un by drawing the 10 of diamonds.  (Believe it or not we did not do a fine today!)

Program–Denise Shockley provided the program for our meeting today.  She shared information about a  project that they have been doing with the Gallia County Schools.  It is an intergenerational program involveing students, parents, grandparents coming together for an evening or eating, playing games and doing a project that can be used in the community.   Each month the program moves to a different school.   Denise’s professional staff program different activities each month for the different schools.Thank you, Denise, that is an innovative program for our county schools!/font>
