Gallipolitan
Rotarians Emily Dailey and Jenny Evans spoke to Gallipolis Rotarians
about two upcoming projects for our club. Jenny has been hard work at organizing a Rotary Team for this year’s Relay For Life. Emily has organized our Literacy Reading Program in the county elementary schools. We are thankful for the exhaustive efforts and contributions that Emily and Jenny have made on behalf of Gallipolis Rotary!
President Deb Rhodes opened the regular meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club promptly at 7:15 am with an excellent assembly of Rotarians present. Bob Hood provided our invocation. Our president welcomed everyone including our guest, James Wellington, of Gallipolis. James has submitted his application for membership in Gallipolis Rotary and will be having his luncheon meeting with several club officers to enlighten him about the fine points of Rotary membership!
Ro-Ki-Li—This year’s combined meeting of Gallipolis Rotary, Kiwanis, and Lions will be held on Tuesday, May 19th, at 6:00 pm at O.O. McIntyre Park. There will not be a morning meeting that day, but instead we will all gather at the Park for some great fellowship and cookout. Our hosts this year are the Gallipolis Lions. This is always a great event. Mark your calendars and let’s all plan to be there!
2009 District Conference—This year’s District Conference will be held in Lancaster, at the Crossroad Center, May 14-17. You can click on the graphic above which is linked to the District’s web site and all the necessary forms to join in the activities!
Literacy Project—Book Sorting—Project Chair, Emily Dailey, announced our club will be holding a book sorting this Thursday, April 23rd, at 3:00 PM at Jim Morrison’s office on Second Avenue. This is a lot of fun and attendance make-up credits will be given! Any Red Badge holder should try to attend to gain credit towards the permanent blue badge. See you there on Thursday!
Relay For Life—Jenny Evans spoke to the club about our plans to participate in this year’s Cancer Society Relay For Life. Jenny announced we have already raised over $700 towards our goal of $1,000 which will provide our team with our own tent. There will be 10-12 slots for walkers and sign up sheets will be coming out soon. Jenny reminded everyone to buy memorial luminaries through our club so we get the credit towards our goal! Dan Whiteley offered up the inventory of remaining colorful handmade socks which we sold several years ago. Let’s all get behind Jenny’s efforts and make this a great Relay.
Program Roster—President Deb scolded the club for not paying more attention to the Program Responsibility Roster which is on the club’s web page HERE and on our blog page ————(Look just above the calendar!)——————————>
Kurt Dailey is responsible for next week’s program and here is the roster for May:
5-May

19-May
Annual Ro-Li-Ki Meeting

Split-The-Pot—Dan Whiteley ran STP for our meeting selling a bunch of tickets to run the small pot up to $9.00! Today’s lucky ticket holder was Lou Ellen Werry! Lou carefully drew for the large pot of $36 narrowly missing the Queen, but drew the Jack of Spades! Being the gentleman, Dan disclosed the Queen was actually located right next to the card that was drawn! Oh, so close. Lou Ellen assessed the Foundation Fine against anyone who did not get up to speak in front of the club today!
Fellowship—Lou Ellen Werry ran club fellowship for our meeting and congratulated everyone for the excellent attendance at today’s meeting. Lou Ellen asked for fines but today everyone was on-time, and properly ‘badged’ and pinned! Lou Ellen shared some important facts that occurred on this day in history. Jenny Evans bought a Happy Buck to officially announce that she has officially become a home gardener and planted some eight fruit trees. Keep working on that Green Thumb, Jenny!
