Gallipolitan

Kurt Dailey and Joel Reed provided a fun musical program for Gallipolis Rotary this past Tuesday morning. This dynamic dueling duo of guitars helped Rotarians flash back with some familiar 60’s folk songs. Almost made you want to dig out that tie-dyed T-shirt and bell bottom jeans!
VP and President-Elect Bonnie McFarland was in charge today at the regular meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club. President Deb was taking some well deserved time off. We had a number of special guests with us today including visiting Rotarian Jack Buxton from Pt. Pleasant, Melissa Kimmel a guest of Margaret Evans, Joel Reed, a guest of Kurt Dailey, and James Wellington, a guest of Kevin Petrie. James will be inducted next week into membership in our club. VP Bonnie thanked everyone for attending today as we had an excellent show of members today.
Member Directory—Cleeland Willis announced the new pages for our member directory are now available. This update was several years in the making, as it has been about seven years since we did a major update. Cleeland mentioned that Brett Booth’s picture didn’t get in this time, and we completely left out Greg Sojka! We will get these omissions rectified as soon as possible. If anyone sees typos or other errors please let Cleeland know so we can get the corrections made.
Ro-Ki-Li—This year’s combined meeting of Gallipolis Rotary, Kiwanis, and Lions clubs will be held on Tuesday, May 19th, at 6:00 pm at O.O. McIntyre Park. There will not be a morning meeting that day, but instead we will all gather at the Park for some great fellowship and cookout. Our hosts this year are the Gallipolis Lions. This is always a great event. Mark your calendars and let’s all plan to be there!
Relay For Life—Bonnie reminded the club about our plans to participate in this year’s Cancer Society Relay For Life. There will be 10-12 slots for walkers and sign up sheets will be coming out soon. Bonnie reminded everyone to buy memorial luminaries through our club so we get the credit towards our goal! Mark your calendars for June 5th!
Upcoming Programs—Next week’s program chairperson is Shirley Doss. We have an open program opportunity for May 12th if anyone knows of a great program for the club. Please let Deb or Bonnie know.
Literacy Project Book Sorting—
Emily Dailey reported we had a great time sorting books last week at Jim’s offices. Rotarians present included Emily Dailey, Margaret Evans, Jenny Evans, and Chuck Clark. Emily said some of the books will be donated to the school libraries this year and we are holding on to some of the nicer books which will be used for our reading program next year.
Book Drive Underway—Debbie Saunders updated the club on the drive to raise funds in the community to help purchase new reference materials for the three new high schools in Gallia county which will open in the fall.
Split-The-Pot—Jim Morrison ran STP for the meeting and everyone’s contributions pushed the small pot up to $9.00! The lucky ticket holder for the day was Dave Nadler, proving once again that it often ‘pays’ to come to Rotary! In drawing for the $46 big pot, Dave pulled the six of spades. He assessed the Foundation Fine against anyone who is not in the midst of building a house.
Fellowship—Lou Ellen Werry ran club fellowship for the meeting and reflected on some of our departed members we miss such as Lou Ford, Jerry Gust, and Bernie Niehm. Lou continued on which a bit of boxing trivia including some info on the World Champ Mohammad Ali. Fascinating stuff!
Program—Members and guests were treated to a different sort of program today courtesy of Kurt Dailey and his guitar hero, Joel Reed, who is Youth Pastor at the Gallipolis Christian Church, and a guitar instructor. We all had a fun time singing “If I Had A Hammer” and “This Land Is Your Land.” Thanks, Kurt and Joel!
