MAY BOARD MEETING
Attendees Present: Deb Rhodes - Chair, Katrinka Hart, Jim Morrison, Paul Koch, Jodie Anderson, Shawn Siders, and Chuck Clark (on phone)
Reports:
The minutes from the April Board meeting were approved as read by Deb Rhodes. Chuck also mentioned that he could not find evidence of Melissa Kimmel’s past membership from the
Shawn gave the Treasurer’s Report with the last month’s checking account transactions and the difference in accounts balances for the last month. Shawn reported that we have paid $6000 in scholarships and $1215 to the Membership History Books. Shawn said that the $480 in donations for the book drive was not included in the checking account balance reported. He is tracking these donations in an Excel spreadsheet. Jim mentioned that the donations should be housed in the Foundation fund so that the donations are tax deductible. Shawn will transfer these funds out of checking into the Foundation fund. Shawn also reported that the amount in our Foundation accounts have increased. Treasurer’s Report was motioned for approval by Jim and seconded by Jodie.
Old Business:
The Spaghetti Dinner date is set for June 20, 2009. The dinner will take place at the Senior Citizens Center from 5 PM – 7 PM. Deb reported that she spoke to Shirley and she is confident that $1000 will be raised for the Gates Donation.
The
Deb Rhodes reported that this year’s Rotary Relays were cancelled due to lack of participation from Junior High Track teams.
New Business:
Deb announced that she will be attending the district conference dinner on May 16th and Bonnie will be attending the breakfast of the District Conference on May 17th. She will charge the $190 fee to the Rotary credit card for reimbursement. She also announced that there will be a Rotary 101 session for new members on May 15 at 2:00 PM.
Deb reported that she received a letter from the American Red Cross for the Everyday Heroes program asking for donations. The Board decided to donate $100 in order to be considered a “friend” of the organization.
Katrinka reported the group budgeted $17,500 for the year and we have paid out $18,900 for donations and other expenses. She also mentioned that we will be giving $1000 for the Gates Donation. The Board also agreed to donate $100 to Gallipolis in Bloom. Katrinka mentioned that she and Shawn will work on an updated budget.
Deb reported that we are planning on still sponsoring the Rotary Mile over the 4th of July. She will speak to Margaret about this and this would be a great project for new members to earn their blue badge.
Jodie asked that the members provide feedback for how Rotary and Generation Gallia Young Professionals Network (YPN) can work together in the future. Deb mentioned that Jodie could possibly present during her time at the Ro – Ki – Li event on May 19 at
Jodie also reported that Gallipolis Rotary Club now has a Facebook page and 2 fans. She would like to see younger people take an interest in the club.
