Final Three Gallipolis Rotary Scholars Announced

Scholarship Chairman, Bob Hood, announced the final three 2009 Rotary Scholars for 2009.  Pictured above are Andrea VanMeter, Quintin Nibert, and Annee Carman, Rotary Scholars for the Gallipolis Rotary Club.  At the recent meeting of the club, these three join with  Meghan Daines, Amber Miller, and Ashley Miller as the 2009 Rotary Scholars.  Andrea and Annee are both attending Cedarville University this fall and plan on majoring in the Cross Cultural Nursing program with plans to pursue missionary work after graduation.  Quintin is looking forward to starting the 5 year coop Engineering program at the University of Cincinnati.  The Gallipolis Rotary Club congratulates our 2009 Rotary Scholars.

Board MeetingPresident Deb Rhodes summarized the actions taken at the recent board meeting.  The board approved $100 for the Gallipolis Red Cross Chapter for their upcoming Heros Dinner, and $100 to the Gallipolis In Bloom program.  More details from this board meeting are located on the club blog page.

Ro-Li-Ki—President Deb emphasized to the membership that there will be NO MORNING MEETING NEXT WEEK!  The breakfast has been cancelled so don’t plan on showing up.  Our club is joining with the Gallipolis Lions and Kiwanis clubs in our annual combined meeting which will be held at McIntyre Park at 6:00 PM.  Please plan on arriving promptly at 6:00 PM so we can have an excellent showing of Rotarians!!  Our next morning meeting will be May 26th at our usual time and place.

Foundation Giving—Any last minute contributions to our Rotary Foundation need to made now to be included in this Rotary year.  Remember our slogan: Every Rotarian, Every Year!

Split-The-PotDan Whiteley picked up and ran STP for the meeting today.  Our lucky ticket holder for today was Bonnie McFarland!  Bonnie pocketed the $5 small pot and carefully selected a card for the big pot of $58, but pulled the four of diamonds, keeping the pot safe for another week.  She assessed the Foundation Fine against anyone who was NOT going to the District Conference.

Fellowship—‘Raindrops keep fallin’ Gordon Amsbary sang his way into club fellowship.  Our birthday girl for the week was Bonnie McFarland, but she had to slip out early—but there’s always next week!  Grae Schuster plead ‘not eligible’ for his recent billboard picture, but that was before he was in the club!  Gordon couldn’t seem to pick up any fines for the morning, but there were a number of Happy Bucks, which helped finance a few contributions to the kitty.  Gordon announced that today was ‘National Donate Your Wages Day’ . . . really?  He topped off fellowship with some words of wisdom.

Program—Program Chairman for the meeting, John Ellison, introduced a new physician with the Clinic, Dr. Jeffrey Shook, to speak to the club about his Podiatry practice.  Dr. Shook is a native of Marion, IN and a graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, Cleveland.  He took his residency training at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Cleveland, and is a board certified surgeon in foot and ankle reconstruction.

Dr. Shook described some of the common injuries that occur including heel pain and bone spurs.  After his prepared remarks our speaker took a number of questions from members about foot problems.  President Deb presented our speaker with a certificate for the donation of a book to an elementary school library in Gallia County in his honor.

Thank you John and Dr. Shook for the interesting program.

Remember, we will be at Ro-Li-Ki next week, so there is no morning meeting.
