Gallipolis Rotarians celebrated the close of the 2008-2009 Rotary year with an evening meeting at the Gallia Senior Resource Center.  Everyone who attended really enjoyed the event.  A big ’shout-out’ needs to go to Alvira Robinson for the wonderful cakes we all enjoyed for dessert, and Shirley Doss and her staff at the Center for all their hard work!

Remember, our next meeting will be at 7:15 am back at the Doctors’ Dining Room next Tuesday, July 7th.

President Deb Rhodes welcomed Gallipolis Rotarians and guests to the next-to-the-last meeting of this Rotary year.  Bob Hood provided the invocation.  President Deb reminded Rotarians that next week is an EVENING MEETING and our induction of officers and directors.  Our meeting will be held at the Senior Resource Center, gathering at 6 pm with dinner at 6:30 pm.

Rotary Mile—Our first project of the new Rotary year is not far off.  Our Rotary Mile will take place on July 3rd just prior to the annual parade.  Event Chairman, Jim Morrison, passed around sign-up sheets for the registration and start at the Shake Shoppe and a separate sheet for help at the finish line.  Plan on reporting to the Shake Shoppe at 5:45 pm.

Gallipolis Rotary served up some mighty fine spaghetti to benefit Rotary’s Polio Plus efforts and our club’s fundraising in support of this project.  Pictured above are President-Elect Bonnie McFarland (left) and project organizer, Shirley Doss (right) with Alvira Robinson who helped cook up the special sauce.  Shirley Doss had arranged a polio educator, Naomi Durst, RN available to answer questions for our guests about this dreaded disease.  While we were a bit disappointed with the turnout, Gallipolis Rotarians helped dish up more awareness in the community for this important project which will be repeated the next two year as our club’s commitment to RI’s commitment to end polio.

President Deb Rhodes welcomed guests and fellow Rotarians at the regular meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club.  Bob Hood gave the invocation.

Jenny Evans announced that the Rotarians effort for the Relay for Life raised over $1100.  Bonnie McFarland said the entire Relay for Life effort raised over $85,000 and she appreciated all of the support that the club gave to the cause.
