July Board Meeting
Attendees Present: Deb Rhodes, Bonnie McFarland, Mel Simon, Kevin Petrie, Margaret Evans, Shirley Doss, Resty Alfonso, Lou Ellen Werry.
Treasurer’s Report - Shawn Siders reported that Margaret Evans just gave $200 to the Spaghetti Dinner. He also reported that the $1000 Bill Gates donation was put on the Rotary Credit Card and has not been paid, therefore, is not reflected in the checking account balances reported. Secretary’s Report – Chuck reported our average attendance was 69.2% and that the new members have a very high attendance record.
New Business:
Resty Alfonso reported that he represents the Rotary on the Senior Citizens Board and asked Shirley what is the greatest need for donations to the center. Shirley reported that the concrete beside the entrance ramp has sunk and is dangerous. The sidewalk needs dug up and re-poured. Shirley will get estimates for this project and report at the next meeting.
Bonnie informed the group that a young man named David Saunders was hoping to receive funding from the Rotary Club for the Congressional Student Leadership Conference. After discussion, it was decided that we were unable to donate to his cause.
Generation Gallia YPN also sent a letter asking the Rotary Club for a donation and attendance at their next event, which would help the club with recruitment of younger members. The Board decided to donate $50 to Generation Gallia.
Bonnie reported that the Gallipolis City School District will be holding an Open House at the new high school on August 16th, 2:30 PM.
Bonnie also read a letter from Mel Simon inviting the Rotary Club to take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the French 500 Free Clinic on July 23, at 1:00 PM.
Old Business:
Bonnie reported that the District Governor will be visiting on July 21. Bonnie and Deb went to visit Super 8 and Dave’s American Grill for possible lodging & meeting locations for the visit. The Board also decided to donate $100 to the Polio Plus as a gift for the District Governor.
Bonnie will be bringing a card and ordering a bouquet of flowers for Alvera Robinson to thank her for all of her help with the Spaghetti Dinner.
We will also be sending Bob Eastman a get well card. Shawn mentioned that we will discontinue billing Bob while he is recovering.
Mel Simon spoke on various matching grants that he will be submitting to Rotary International. Deb & Bonnie also mentioned that they are applying for a grant to continue the book project.
Bonnie also reported that she will be meeting with Kevin and Dave to recruit them to chair the Relay for Life committee.
Jodie asked the club to please give ideas for the redesign of the club website.
