Marianne Campbell Addresses Rotary Club
Gallia icon, Marianne Campbell, addressed Gallipolis Rotary today informing the assembled Rotarians about the Foundation For Appalachian Ohio. Before her retirement in 2002 and after more than 30 years with Holzer Medical Center, Ms. Campbell was director of community Relations and executive vice president of the Holzer Foundation for Tri-State Health Care in Gallipolis, Ohio. A communications and marketing specialist by profession, Campbell was in broadcast management for 22 years. She was the first woman president of the Ohio Association for Broadcasters. She was honored as the First Woman in Broadcasting by the American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT), served as national president of AWRT and national chair of the AWRT Education Foundation.
Ms. Campbell spoke to the club about the efforts of the Foundation For Appalachian Ohio’s mission to promote access to educational opportunities for students in the 32 county region. FAO awarded 34 scholarships to students in the region last year to students of academic quality and often the first in their family to pursue college or technical training after high school. The Foundation provides opportunities for philanthropy for scholarships and grants to support the communities in the 32 county Appalachian region to grow the resources to enhance the quality of life for all. Our program chair for the meeting was Margaret Evans who honored our speaker as of “Woman of Firsts” for the many accomplishments she has achieved over the course of her career.
Our guests today included our speaker, Marianne Campbell, and Dr. Christopher Marrazon, a guest of PDG Mel Simon. Club President, Bonnie McFarland, took a moment to welcome our guests to our club meeting.

Our club through the efforts of PDG Mel Simon is raising funds locally and in the district to help fund the shipment of hospital supplies and other relief items via a cargo container. The account is nearly half way to the goal of $4,000 to move the supplies to its destination. Members and interested parties may make their checks out to the Gallipolis Rotary Club—Philippine Relief.

Red Cross Care Packages for Service Personnel—Our local Red Cross Chapter is raising fund and collecting merchandise to send to our troops overseas. Paul Koch reminded everyone we need to pitch in and help our local Red Cross folks. They had an excellent drive over the weekend, but could still use more funds and help this week to pack everything up. Call them at 446-8555!
Split-The-Pot—Dan Whiteley ran STP today and our small pot was $7.00 and the big pot was $208.00. Dan asked our speaker, Marianne Campbell, to draw the winning ticket which was held by . . . MARGARET EVANS! In the draw for the big pot, Margaret drew every carefully from a very slim deck and pulled the QUEEN OF HEARTS to win the $210.00! Congratulations! Margaret donated the winning to the Rotary Foundation. Our Foundation Fine was assessed against anyone who didn’t attend last weekend’s band contests.
Fellowship—Cleeland Willis ran club fellowship today and fined our newest member, Andrea Gannaway, for a slightly tardy appearance today. Under Happy Buck$, Jim Morrison paid a buck to the club for passing his blood tests this morning at the clinic lab! Cleeland concluded fellowship with a little historical trivia about barbed wire and his thought for the day.
See you all next week! Remember the elections! Our speaker next week will be Dr. Barbara Danley, President of the University of Rio Grande.
