The first Rotary meeting of the new year and new decade was opened by President Bonnie McFarlandCleeland Willis provided the invocation.  We had an excellent attendance despite the poor weather.   A new table arrangement greeted Rotarians this morning along with some nice table decorations provided by President Bonnie.  She worked hard the night before to arrange this setup and it looked great.  Thanks, Bonnie!

Welcome Jenny!Jenny Evans was in attendance today taking a brief respite from her law school studies.  She is busy with classes and a big research project right now.  Come again anytime you can, Jenny!

Reading in Schools—Committee Chair, Emily Dailey, reminded everyone that Wednesday, January 6th is our scheduled reading day in the county schools, providing we don’t get snowed out.  If we do, call your school to set up another time to read.  The children really look forward to these reading sessions.

Books For Schools Project—Project chair, Debbie Saunders, announced the books we donate to schools in honor of our program speakers have arrived and are ‘graciously’ being stored at Jim Morrison’s office.  The books will receive their labels bearing the names of all our speakers through the year and will be donated to the elementary schools in the city and county.

Split-The-PotJim ‘Gracious’ Morrison ran STP for our meeting today announcing the small pot was $6 and the large pot was $66.  Looking for an honest face in the room to draw the winning ticket, Jim turned to Jenny, saying ‘it was OK since she has yet to graduate!’  Today’s lucky ticket holder was PDG Mel Simon.  In the draw for the large pot, Mel drew the Queen of Spades.  Our Foundation Fine was assessed against anyone who did NOT attend our Christmas party.

FellowshipGordon Amsbary ran club fellowship for the meeting today and recognized two birthdays for the week—Bob Hood on January 1st and Greg Sojka on January 5th.  Gordo recognized our lady Rotarians as this week is Women’s Self Empowerment Week as well as Thank Your Customer Week.  Gordon concluded with a note about New Year Resolutions—90% are broken within the first week.

Special Thanks to Dave SmithPresident Bonnie took a moment to thank Rotarian Dave Smith for inviting Gallipolis Rotarians to help out with his Community Christmas Dinner.  It was a great event for the community and an especially rewarding time for volunteers!  Thanks, Dave!

Program—Today’s program was a planned club assembly and President Bonnie asked Chuck Clark to present a PowerPoint presentation on the features and benefits of members using the RI and District 6690 websites.  Chuck used a presentation from Rotary International that instructed users how to obtain a login for for members only portion of rotary.org.  Here members can update their email address and make contributions to the Rotary Foundation.

Chuck also took a few minutes to show off the new District 6690 database.  He encouraged members to log in and update their personal information.  This is a great new tool for Rotary District 6690.
