Rotarians Hear About Medicine In China
Dr. Dan Black and son, Dane Black, presented ‘Impressions of China’ at this week’s meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club. Pictured above are Dr. Black, Resty Alonzo, President Bonnie McFarland, and Dane Black showing their certificates for Books For Schools which will be donated in their names to a local elementary school.
The Black’s participated in a People to People trip to China which allowed for exposure to the country’s medical centers and clinics to learn first hand about medical practices in China. Dr. Black emphasized that Chinese medicine combines mind-body-spirit practices that date back thousands of years. Dane enjoyed getting about the country and captured many interesting photographs of Beijing, The Great Wall, and other interesting sights. Resty contributed a Happy Buck to the club on behalf of our speakers today.
Dr. Black would like to present additional information about the specifics of Chinese medicine in another program for the club in the future. There wasn’t sufficient time for questions and answers, so we need to invite Dr. Dan back for another program! Thank you, Dan and Dane for the interesting program!
Due to the snowfall this morning our attendance was a bit off the norm. We had 19 Rotarians in attendance today and Cleeland Willis provided the invocation.
Rotary Reading—Emily Dailey reminded members that our monthly reading date is coming up on February 3rd! That’s one week from this Wednesday.
Rotarian Junk To Foundation Funds–Dan Whiteley reminded club members to clean out the basement, garage, or attic and bring in donated items that can be sold at the auction in Middleport to benefit the Rotary Foundation. For large items, Dan will come and pick them up with his truck! Just mention to Dan that you have items for the auction. The club did really well last fall for awhile, but we need to pick up the momentum again to benefit the Rotary Foundation.
Rotary Can Help HMC Rehab—Dr. Black asked if Rotary can help the 5th floor Rehab by donating any old medical texts as well as VHS and DVD videos. He would like to stock a library for rehab patients who have time on their hands after 5 pm. The medical texts will come in handy as there is now more emphasis for the patient to take an active role in his/her healing. Our club is positioned to really help out in this effort.
Fellowship—‘Sunshine Gordo’ Amsbary led club fellowship this
morning informing the club this is ‘National School Nurse Day’ as well as ‘National Turkey Day’ and ‘National Complement Day!’ Gordon was extolling the virtues of National Complement Day as Rotarian Margaret Evans rolled into the meeting. Gordo extracted a dollar late fee and concluded Fellowship with a few words of wisdom for the club.![]()
Split-The-Pot—Jim Morrison ran STP for our meeting today and the small pot was $5.00. Jim asked Dan Black to draw the winning ticket which was held by new member, Shana Booher! The undisclosed large pot was missed by drawing an undisclosed wrong card from the deck. Close, though! Shana assessed the Foundation Fine against anyone who ‘does not use social networking!’
Coin Box—Margaret Evans turned in a nice, heavy Rotary coin box today for her installment toward the Rotary Foundation. Our Treasurer, Shawn, was absent today, but we should learn next week on the totals for Margaret’s and John Ellison’s which was turned in last week!
Have a great week, and watch out for that snow!
