February Board Meeting
Members Present: Bonnie McFarland, Paul Koch, Shirley Doss, Lou Ellen Werry, Shawn Siders, Resty Alonzo, Mel Simon, Chuck Clark, Deb Rhodes, Jodie McCalla.
Bonnie called the meeting to order.
Treasurer’s Report: Shawn reported that $1362 was paid to the Rotary for our semi-annual dues. There are $2600 in outstanding dues that need to be collected.
Secretary’s Report: Chuck reported that Elaine Householder has contacted him about sponsoring her for the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship. Elaine is from Ohio State University.
Paul Harris Fellows: Shirley Doss and Shawn Siders were elected as this year’s Paul Harris Fellows. Shawn to arrange for payment of the medallions for himself and Shirley.
Medical Missions/Shelter Boxes: Mel reported that Shawn did an excellent job collected funds for the disaster relief, as praised by DG Ram Gawande. Mel spoke about the medical mission he is going on to the Phillipines. This will be the 26th year of medical missions that he has attended. The Board also decided to sponsor a shelter box for Haiti. Each Rotarian will be charged $5 extra for 5 months to cover this expense.
Rotary Relays: Bonnie reported that she had not heard back from Jeff Lanham.
Public Relations: Bonnie reported that she and Deb Saunders would put together public service announcements about Rotary. Bonnie will also check with Marianne Campbell about possibly being on her radio show.
Polio Fund Contribution: Bonnie would like to contribute $1000 to this. Jodie motioned, Shirley seconded, all were in favor.
Other Business: Our past speaker, Dr. Black, asked us to buy the book “The Last Lecture” as our donated book. It was decided, however, to use the books that we have already bought to donate on his behalf.
It was also decided to not donate to the Rotary District Kick Cancer campaign.
French Art Colony asked for $300 for the Youth Art Competition. Jodie motioned to donate, Chuck seconded, all were in favor.
We also received a notice from AEP about their speaker’s bureau.
