March Board Meeting
Members Present: Shirley Doss, Deb Rhodes, Lou Ellen Werry, Kevin Petrie, Bonnie McFarland, Chuck Clark, Shawn Siders, Jodie McCalla.
President Bonnie called the meeting to order.
Treasurer’s Report: Shawn went over transactions out of our checking account that included a $300 donation to the French Art Colony and $650 for morning meals. He mentioned that we had expenses due to the Valentine’s Day dinner and toward sponsorsing a shelter box. He also mentioned that we redeemed a CD for $2500. Shawn also mentioned that a portion of our fines, happy bucks, etc. are supposed to go into the Savings account and he had not been doing that until now. We should see activity in our Savings account due to this.
Jodie & Shawn also discussed how much we were able to give for scholarships this year. The past 2 years, we have given 6 $1000 scholarships. There was discussion about modifying our scholarship program to give this money over a period of 2 to 4 years so we can track the progress of the students and keep them connected with Rotary. It was decided that Jodie would come up with a proposal of how we could accomplish this. It was also discussed to publish the scholarships on Facebook, since traditional methods of advertising weren’t working as well. It was decided to offer UP TO 6 $1000 scholarships again this year. Jodie motioned, Shirley seconded, all were in favor. Shawn will also talk to Jim Morrison about withdrawing funds from our investments to help pay for this.
Secretary’s Report: Chuck reported that attendance was down to 64% last month. We also received an email from Grae Shuster that he would like to resign his membership due to no longer being in the area. Bonnie will discuss his options for moving his membership.
Other Business: We received a letter from the Gallia County Sheriff’s Department asking for sponsorship of their Annual Safety Program. The Board decided this year we could not donate to this program.
