Gallipolis Rotarians learned more about the online access to giving to the Rotary Foundation today at the regular meeting of the Gallipolis
Rotary Club. Club Treasurer, Shawn Siders, presented an informative look at the web based tools provided on the Rotary International web site. Shawn pointed out the convenience of this method of giving and that it saves time and postage. RI does a great job of accounting for all the donations and informing our Treasurer. Thanks, Shawn for the great program!
President Bonnie McFarland welcomed everyone to the meeting today and we had one visiting Rotarian—Frank Capehart, from the Pt. Pleasant Rotary Club with us today.
Coin Box—John Ellison turned in a really heavy Rotary coin box today that was stuff so full that some of the quarters spilled out! Using these coin boxes is a great way to make that annual contribution to the RI Foundation. With an average box producing around $33.00, just three a year will make your annual $100.00 gift to the Rotary Foundation.
Ro-Li-Ki Meeting—Next Tuesday, May 11th is an EVENING meeting at the HMC Educational Center, Rooms A & B, for the combined annual meeting of Rotary, Lions, and Kiwanis clubs. President Bonnie emphasized THERE WILL BE NO MORNING MEETING NEXT WEEK! Instead, members should plan on attending the evening Ro-Li-Ki meeting which will start at 6:30 PM.
May 18th Meeting—We will meet back at the Doctors’ Dining Room on May 18th resuming our regular schedule and Resty Alonzo will provide our speaker.
District Conference—President Bonnie announced our club will be receiving three awards at this year’s District Assembly, May 13-16 in Athens at the OU Inn. These awards are for our Public Relations, Literacy Projects, and a Presidential Citation. Bonnie personally thanked Debbie Saunders for her efforts with the PR and Literacy projects.
Polio Plus Spaghetti Dinner—
Chair Shirley Doss reported on our successful Polio Plus Spaghetti Dinner held last Tuesday. Our club made OVER $700 [Shawn has confirmed the total has risen to $1,250.00!] from the dinner this year! Many thanks to Alvera Robinson for her hard work in cooking up the sauce and desserts. President Bonnie asked we give Shirley’s husband, Jim Doss, a hearty round of applause for his hard work and sore stirring arm!
Attendance Sign-In Sheets—Secretary Chuck Clark announced the club will start using sign-in sheets which are to be found on each table at our meetings. This allows for the proper recording of attendance and for District and club project work which all counts towards our attendance figures. Please remember the Rotary 4-Way Test when accounting for your attendance!
Relay For Life—Team Leaders, Kevin Petrie and David Smith, are looking for 100% club support for this year’s Relay For Life event. Every member received two luminaries applications which are $10.00 each either to be completed or sold to benefit our team’s efforts in raising $1,000 towards our team tent. The benefit auction handled by Dan Whiteley has raised between $300 and $400 and we need to make up the difference with these luminaries. Kevin and David have a sign-up sheet for the walking portion of our team effort. Be sure to see either Dave or Kevin and sign up!
Rotary Scholars—Chair Jodie McCalla announced this year’s Rotary Scholars. Winners of the $1,000 scholarships include Lindsey Miller, Stephanie Sebastian, Melissa Stump, and Jasmine Waugh. These scholars will be introduced to the club later in the month. Congratulations to our Rotary Scholars!
Fellowship—Gordon Amsbary entertained the club during fellowship time collecting a fine from Margaret Evans for arriving a bit late to the meeting. He provided from uplifting remarks from Billy Graham and announced that today is National Teacher’s Day. He continued with some historical trivia and concluded with his parting words of wisdom.
Split-The-Pot—Deb Rhodes stepped in and ran STP for our meeting today. Today’s small pot was $9.00 and Debbie asked Dave Smith draw the winning ticket which was held by Shawn Siders! Shawn drew carefully for the large pot of $179.00 only to pull the nine of spades! Oh, so close! The Foundation Fine was assessed against anyone who has not registered for the District Conference!
Club Board Meeting—President Bonnie reminded members the monthly club board meeting will be held directly after the club meeting.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned.
