Gallipolitan 5/24/2010

Members Present:  Dave Nadler, Marlin Rose, Jon Ellison, Zac Fosler, Margaret Evans, Paul Koch, Lou Ellen Werry, Denise Shockley, Jim Morrison, Shawn Siders, Resty Alonzo, David Smith, Shirley Doss, Shana Booher, Kevin Petrie, Deb Rhodes, Emily Daily, Mel Simone, Bonnie McFarland (Spaghetti Dinner).

President Bonnie McFarland called the meeting to order.

Scholarship - Jodie introduced two of our scholarship winners, Lindsay Miller from OVCS, and Stephanie Sebastian from SGHS.  Both ladies introduced themselves and their families.  We are very proud to have them as our scholarship winners this year!

Recognition - Bonnie recognized Mel Simone for being inducted into the Ohio Outstanding Senior Hall of Fame.  This award recognized Mel for his volunteerism and humanitarian efforts.  Mel inspired the group with his story and said that he could not have achieved his dreams if it were not for Gallia County and people like Rotarians.  Congratulations Mel, we are very proud of you!

Fellowship - In Gordon’s absence, Margaret Evans reminded that our job as Rotarians is to “be the change we want to see in the world”.  Also, it is Jodie McCalla’s birthday this week and she asked that Dave Nadler & Shawn Siders sing to her, as well as guest, Larry Miller.  The trio was a little off key, but still did a great job!  Shawn reported a happy buck that his daughter turned 4 this week.  Dave Smith recognized that he will be a father of a graduate this week.

Split the Pot - Jim Morrison handled Split the Pot. There was $194 in the large pot. Dave Nadler won split the pot and his fine was anyone that did not have an 8 AM Meeting, although his desired fine was anyone that was sang to this morning. :)

Relay for Life - Kevin reported that $633 has been raised for R4L.  We still need walkers at midnight, 2 AM, 3 AM, and 4 AM.

Program -  Emily Dailey provided the program this morning.  She handed out a sheet entitled “40 Developmental Assets”.  Each Rotarian had to fill it out.  If you had more assets, the better a person you turned out to be, which resulted in more positive behaviors.  She encouraged the group to ask yourself if there is a young person that can use your influence?

We had a great and motivational meeting today!  Bonnie adjourned the meeting.
