THE GALLIPOLIS ROTARY CLUB

President Bonnie McFarland conducted her last official meeting as President of the Gallipolis Rotary Club at a special evening meeting held at the Holzer Medical Center Education Center.  The members and guests enjoyed a particularly excellent dinner and great fellowship.  And there was cake!

Outgoing President Bonnie engaged PDG Mel Simon to officiate the formal installation of our new slate of officers for Rotary year 2010-2011.  Mel conducted a meaningful ceremony of induction for our new leaders. President Bonnie McFarland opened her LAST morning meeting of this current Rotary year and welcomed our visiting Rotarians, Lee Salzgaber, and Karen Facemeyer.  Jenny Evans was also with us today and is enjoying her summer away from law studies at Marshall.  Our invocation was given by Cleeland Willis.

June 29 Meeting—President Bonnie reminded everyone that next week’s meeting will be an evening meeting to be held at the Holzer Medical Center, at 6:00 pm, in the Educational Center.  President Bonnie is inviting all members to a time of fellowship from 6:00 – 6:30 pm and is providing wine and cheese and refreshments to all who come.  She has promised a fun time for all.  Please make every effort to attend and thank Bonnie for a great Rotary year and welcome our leaders for Rotary year 2010-2011!

District Governor’s Visit—President-Elect Lou Ellen Werry  announced our new District Governor, Calvin T. Gebhart is scheduled to visit Gallipolis Rotary on July 27th.  Calvin is President and CEO of Citizen’s Bank of Pickaway county.  He is a member of the Circleville Sunrise Rotary Club.  Our President-Elect expressed she is excited about the upcoming Rotary year and that Calvin will make a great Governor for District 6690! Rotary Mile—Event Chair, Jim Morrison, reminded members this year’s Rotary Mile will be on July 3rd at 6:30 pm.  Members are reminded to arrive at the Shake Shoppe on Second Avenue at 5:30 pm to help with the registration of the runners.  We will also need members to assist at the finish line to help hand out water and trophies and keep the group together for photographs.  Applications for the event are available at Bossard Library, Chamber of Commerce, and J E Morrison & Associates.  The event is also being promoted in the Gallipolis Tribune and on Facebook. Randy Davies and Randy Drewyor from Horizon Telecom of Chillicothe spoke to Gallipolis Rotary about the SE Ohio Healthcare Network.  Jodie McCalla was our program sponsor for today’s meeting and introduced our speakers who updated club members on the ongoing build out of this ambitious fiber network.  The fiber network will link the major healthcare facilities in a 13 county area and will stretch to over 700 miles by the end of 2010.  While the medical centers such as Holzer Medical Center, Adena, etc will be the hubs for their county, the network will be dual purpose and will attract businesses and link industrial parks in SE Ohio.  Our speakers are also Rotarians and members of the Chillicothe First Capital Club which meets at 7:00 am on Thursdays.  Mr Drewyor is the current President of the First Capital club.
