Bonnie McFarland opened the regular meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club with a few members missing today.  Kevin Petrie gave our invocation.  Chuck Clark was back from the west today, but off his game today, due to illness.

Board Meeting—Bonnie announced the last board meeting of this rotary year would be held right after the meeting.  Gordon Amsbary was looking for a way to make up a missed absence, and planned to attend the board meeting.  Gordon is working on his 38th year of perfect attendance!

End of the year Meeting—President Bonnie announced the annual installation of new officers will occur on June 29th and will be an evening meeting at the Holzer Medical Center.  This will be the handoff of power to our new President, Lou Ellen Werry!  Has anyone noticed how happy Bonnie seems, now that the year is nearly at an end?

Rotary MileJim Morrison announced the plans for this year’s Rotary Mile which will be held before the annual 4th of July Parade, this year on Saturday, July 3rd.  New Rotarians, we split between two locations—the Shake Shoppe and the finish line at the park, so we will need help at both locations.  It’s a fun time and the kids do a great job.  The t-shirts have been ordered, thanks to Margaret Evans.  Plan now to help out on July 3rd.

Relay For Life—Our Rotary Team has raised $733 so far.  President Bonnie urged members to plan on attending the Friday evening event, especially the Parade of Teams, so we can show the community our support.  There are some walking slots open—midnight and 3 am.  Margaret Evans will be issuing a challenge for members to join in these open slots.  I understand there will be Silver Bridge Coffee available as well!

Fellowship—Gordon had all our lady members stand and give a roundIMG_0197 of applause for the men in the club as June is National Men’s Month.  Gordon confirms it is also “Adopt a Cat” month, “National Candy Month,” and “Perennial Gardening Month.”  Gordon provided a list of historic events on this day and concluded with a few words of wisdom.

Happy Buck$President Bonnie offered an ‘apology buck’ and James Wellington offered a Happy Buck in praise for his brother’s unit return from a year duty in Iraq.  Well done!

Split-The-PotJim Morrison ran STP for the meeting and announced the small pot had grown to $9.00 and the large pot to a total of $203.00!  Today’s lucky winner was Jodie McCalla!  Jodie missed out on the big one by drawing the six of diamonds.  The Foundation Fine was assessed against anyone who has not participated in this year’s Relay For Life.

Thank You Note—President Bonnie read a nice note from Melissa Stump, one of our scholarship winners this year.  She appreciated the award and is looking forward to her studies at Marshall Univeristy.

Program—President Bonnie introduced our program speaker for today’s meeting, PDG Mel Simon, who spoke to the club about the Paul Harris Fellow award from the Rotary Foundation.  PDM Mel summarized the history of the award which is named from the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris.  The Fellow award started in 1957 as a way to identify strategic giving to Rotary and a way to recognize contributors to Rotary’s work.  Here is a link to learn more about PHF.

Many thanks to everyone and especially to Jodie McCalla, who picked up the Canon and did a great job with the photograph.

President Bonnie thanked Jodie McCalla for all her hard work and chairing the scholarship committee this year.  Next week’s program will be coming to us from Horizon Communications, the newest Internet provider in Gallia county.
