Gearing up for 63rd Rotary Mile
Rotary Mile—Event Chair, Jim Morrison, reminded members this year’s Rotary Mile will be on July 3rd at 6:30 pm. Members are reminded to arrive at the Shake Shoppe on Second Avenue at 5:30 pm to help with the registration of the runners. We will also need members to assist at the finish line to help hand out water and trophies and keep the group together for photographs. Applications for the event are available at Bossard Library, Chamber of Commerce, and J E Morrison & Associates. The event is also being promoted in the Gallipolis Tribune and on Facebook.
The Gallipolis Rotary Club gathered for it’s regular meeting today with attendance a bit on the meager side mainly due to folks on vacation. President Bonnie McFarland (with only two meetings to conduct this Rotary year) opened our meeting and ADG Matt Willis gave the invocation.
Guests—President Bonnie welcomed our guests today—visiting Rotarian Bill Knight from Pt. Pleasant, visiting Rotarian Lee Salzgaber from the Guam Rotary Club, and our speaker for the morning, Seth Montgomery, from the Gallia County Engineer’s Office.
Treasurer’s Report—Bonnie asked our Treasurer, Shawn Siders, to provide the club with a report on the club’s finances. Shawn provided the balances of the various accounts the club maintains and stated the club’s finances to be in good order.
June 29 Meeting—President Bonnie reminded everyone the final meeting of this Rotary year will be an evening meeting to be held at the Holzer Medical Center, at 6:00 pm, in the Educational Center. President Bonnie is inviting all members to a time of fellowship from 6:00 – 6:30 pm and is providing wine and cheese and refreshments to all who come. She has promised a fun time for all. A sign-up sheet was provided and will be available next week if you were not in attendance today. Please make every effort to attend and thank Bonnie for a great Rotary year!
Note of Thanks—Bonnie read a nicely penned note of thanks from Rotary scholarship recipient, Jasmine Waugh. She expressed her appreciation for the scholarship and that it will help in her studies at the University of Kentucky.
Fellowship—Gordon Amsbary crooned into club fellowship with a old
Johnny Cash tune. Gordon asked all members who were fathers to stand and be acknowledged as this week is ‘Universal Fathers Week.’ Gordon fined John Ellison and Lou Ellen Werry for arriving after the bell. Gordon continued with some chemistry trivia and concluded with a few words of wisdom.
Split-The-Pot—This week’s STP was run by Jim Morrison who announced today’s small pot was $8.00. Our lucky ticket holder for today was Lee Salzgaber! Lee donated back half of his take to the club’s Endowment. Thanks, Lee! For the draw for the big pot of $220, Lee pulled the 10 of diamonds and alas, no cigar. The big pot survives for another week. Our Foundation Fine was assessed against anyone who has not donated to the Red Cross this week.
Program—Today’s program was introduced Brett Boothe who
introduced Seth Montgomery from the Gallia Engineer’s Office. Seth has been with the Engineer’s office for 10 year is the ‘go-to guy’ for the county tax maps. When parcels sell the information is transferred from the county Recorder’s office to the Engineer’s Office where the changes are made. The official maps for the county are becoming digital and are now featured on the county web site, www.gallianet.net. When you click on the GIS link, you can view an Adobe Acrobat view of individual sections in the county map. Eventually, the maps will be fully GPS’d and will be fully integrated in the Location Based Response System or LBRS, and will connect to various databases of property records. This is a big job and will take several years to complete.
Thanks Brett and Seth for the interesting program today.
