President Lou Ellen called the meeting to order and welcomed our guests, Kevin Dennis and Sandi Corbin. Lou Ellen spoke about e-mails circulating concerning Mel’s Medical Mission. According to Mel, there was an accounting error and they have plenty of funds for to complete their mission. Lou Ellen also asked the club if there were any literacy projects that we have worked on, she is sending a list to the District Governor.
Rotarian Lee is back from Guam. He brought back two flags from clubs he visited with while home and also spoke briefly about conflict resolution presentation that he attended. He encouraged the club to get involved with this type of program in our high schools.
Lou Ellen also mentioned a request from the French Art Colony. They have a website of supplies that they need, so she will look to see if there is something we are able to donate to FAC. She also mentioned a grant that she is working on for the holiday season, in which she is planning to use the funds for a coat drive.
Split the Pot - Rotarian Jim Morrison announced there was $10 in the small pot, and $276 in the large pot this morning. Shawn Siders won the pot, but did not get lucky enough to win the large pot. He fined anyone in the club that did not buy a brand new car this week.
Fellowship - Gordon announced that today was the 223rd day of the year. Candid Camera began this day in 1948. The 31st President, Herbert Hoover, was also born this day. We had 2 happy bucks this morning, the first from Margaret, who reported that she was happy to have Kevin Dennis as a guest today. Bonnie was happy that she had 1 fair under her belt, and 2 to go.
Program - Bonnie introduced our guest speaker today, Sandi Corbin. She is a member of the Partners of Hope Cancer Coalition. They are working with various organizations and the government to increase funding for screening tests, especially for cervical cancer. Sandi reported that Gallia County has the most instances of cervical cancer in the Appalachian Region. She thanked the club for their donation to buy screening instruments. If anyone is interested in attending a meeting, they meet every 4th Wednesday at 12:00 PM at the Holzer Cancer Center.
