THE GALLIPOLIS ROTARY CLUB

Gallipolis Rotarians were updated by PDG Mel Simon about last month’s highly successful Operation We Care medical mission to the Philippines at the regular meeting of the Gallipolis Rotary Club.  Pictured above are PDG Mel Simon and Gallipolis Rotary Club President, Lou Ellen Werry.

PDG Mel thanked Gallipolis Rotary for the many years of support to Operation We Care.  This year’s medical mission traveled to Rizal, Philippines north of Manila February 14 – 23.  The 34 volunteer medical professionals  came from across the US and Canada and included medical and dental surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses.  This busy group performed 320 procedures—114 major surgeries and 206 minor procedures in a week’s time.  The medical pros also took the time to conduct continuing education sessions for  the local staff physicians and medical students.  PDG Mel’s PowerPoint presentation provided Rotarians a glimpse into the busy mission schedule.  Congratulations, PDG Mel and Lydia, on the completion the 26th successful Operation We Care! Honorary Rotarian, Ray McKinnis, Farm Manager of Bob Evans Farms in Rio Grande, visited Gallipolis Rotary today to update the club on the major facelift that will take place this year at the Farm.  Ray was introduced to the club by Paul Koch, pictured with Club President, Lou Ellen Werry.

Rotarians learned firsthand about the renovations and changes that are going to take place this year at the farm.  These changes will make the festival site a permanent fixture in Gallia county and will allow the site to be a major tourist destination and a focal point for our county.  Ray announced the construction of a new restaurant for the site which will be slightly west of the current restaurant and the addition of a traffic boulevard main entrance for the restaurant and homestead museum.  (more…)

President Lou Ellen called the Board Meeting to order. Treasurers report:  Shawn reported that the expenses for valentines dinner & Normal meals came out of the checking account, but were off set by dues for this month.He also reported that we are required to take 5% of our Foundation savings account to use for club projects. Shawn withdrew and deposited into our scholarship savings account an amount of $ 2276.88.

He also reported that we are down $4300 for unrestricted funds, and down $4100 for retricted funds due to market activity. Jodie motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Chuck seconded, all were in favor. (more…)
