Emily Davidson Addresses Club
Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011President Shirley Doss presents a Rotary mug to new Rotarian, Emily Davidson, for presenting her ‘vocational talk’ as the program at our meeting today. Emily amazed her audience today with her accomplishments thus far. She spoke of the positive experience with her home schooling all 17 years, being able to travel to 49 of 50 states, and how all of it equipped her to proceed into college level classes. Along the way our new Rotarian has accumulated two bachelor degrees as well as an associate degree. Well done!
Our speaker will soon be taking a new position as Site Manager at the Jenkins Memorial Clinic and Clinic Manager for Dr. Adesioye and Dr. Haller in Jackson. Emily is planning to start a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration. Club members asked a number of excellent questions of our speaker. Thanks, Emily, for the great program!
President Shirley welcomed members and guests to the meeting today. Our guests included Heather Crum, guest of Chuck Clark, and Sammy Lopez, guest of PDG Mel Simon. Both have turned in membership applications to join Gallipolis Rotary!
Fellowship—Gordon Amsbary ran our club fellowship for the meeting and went straight to work fining late-comer Cleeland Willis a buck! Gordo presented a little history trivia and then called for any Happy Buck$. David Smith bought a Happy Buck in honor of visiting London and seeing his son over there. Resty Alonzo also bought a Happy Buck in honor of returning from a recent trip to Germany. Gordon concluded with a few words of wisdom.
Split-The-Pot—Deb Rhodes picked up and ran STP for our meeting today. Sales were fairly brisk and our small pot grew to $7.00. The large pot is now at $307.00! Deb asked Secretary and ‘fill-in’ cashier, Chuck Clark, to draw our winning ticket which was held by . . . guest, Sammy Lopez! Sammy, a Paul Harris Fellow and Rotarian from New Mexico, graciously donated the small pot to the RI Foundation. In the draw for ‘the Big One’, Sammy pulled the Nine of Hearts. Our Foundation Fine for the day was assessed against anyone NOT wearing a long sleeved shirt!
Next week’s program will be handled by President Shirley. Here are the program assignments for the balance of the month:
Aug 9 Lee Bauman
Aug 16 Zac Fosler
Aug 23 Marlin Rose
Aug 30 Jim Phillippe
Have a great week!
