New BEF Festival_Closeup_CR

Gallipolis Rotarians learned more aboutPaul Koch BEF the upcoming 41st Bob Evans Festival at today’s meeting from Project Chairman, Paul Koch.  The above close-up of the new festival grounds shows the Rotary ice cream tent in RED prominently positioned front and center!  Paul urged assembled Rotarians to prepare to work the busy times, between 11 am and 5 pm, especially on Saturday!  Our club will have four new chest freezers for ice cream and

Paul offered an organizational scheme to help improve our efficiency and minimize traffic in the tent.  Two of the freezers will be stocked with vanilla which will benefit the ala mode orders for apple dumplings and pies.  We will have more ‘Buckeye’ this year which should please festival-goers. Our project chair also reminded everyone to WEAR a ball cap, and to enjoy the fellowship, and have fun.  We need volunteers to help at 4 pm Thursday, Oct. 13th to set up the booth and another group of volunteers to come at 5 pm on Sunday to help tear down.  Reminder—each shift worked at the festival counts as a meeting makeup!  Remember, as with past festivals, we love to see Rotary families all helping out our club in this important three day event.  We’re counting on all of you!

President Shirley Doss called our meeting to order right on the designated time of 7:15 am.  Our attendance was a bit short today and our opening started a bit ‘low and slow.’  Our special guest today was Melissa Conkle, Director of Nursing at the Health Department, who was on hand to administer TB tests and flu shots.  Thank you Melissa!

Fellowship—Fellowship chair, IMG_8256Gordon Amsbary, asked Rotarians to stand and hold out their arms in front and assume the position of ‘the twist’ as yesterday was Chubby Checker’s 70th birthday!  Club members also learned that it’s currently “Squirrel Appreciation Week” as well as “National Spinning & Weaving Week.”  Gordo lightened up the morning with a few jokes and managed a late fine on Cleeland Willis who just missed the bell.  We had a Rotarian with a birthday, John Ellison, who paid a little extra to have the entire club sing, even though it took two tries!  At least John didn’t ask for his money back!

Split-The-Pot—Rotarian Shana BooherIMG_8258 ran our STP this morning.  Our small pot grew to $7.00 and our large pot to $60.  Shana asked John Ellison to draw the winning ticket which was held by Jim Phillippe.  Jim missed the ‘big one’ by managing to draw the Six of Clubs, unfortunately, not that close!  Jim assessed the Foundation Fine against anyone who ‘did NOT watch the Notre Dame football game on Saturday.

Board Meeting—President Shirley reminded members the monthly board meeting was scheduled right after our regular meeting today.

Next week’s Program—Dictionary distribution and labeling  with program by Project Chair, Debbie Saunders.  Debbie will go over the distribution schedule which will occur on Monday, Oct. 17th.  This is a great community service project that put Rotarians in all the schools and takes very little time out of your schedule, less than one hour.  Again, your time in this project counts as a makeup toward your meeting attendance.
